Perched in an enviable position on the corner of Kew Green in Richmond, this charming local re-opened as The Botanist on Kew Green in 2014 with the micro brewery replaced by Meantime and Camden Brewery ales on tap, and Hackney Gold, Beavertown 8 Ball and Flying Dog Snake Dog bottled craft beers. The central section of the historic butchers remains, including original butchery hooks hanging from the entrance hall ceiling, and the central conservatory bar area is overhung with dried hop vines. Oxblood leather seating is offset by charcoal grey and pastel green walls, interspersed with floral wallpaper and botanical sketches hanging on the walls. One side of the pub overlooks the green with its own private outside terrace, while at the back of the pub the garden courtyard is the place to catch some rays on sunny afternoons. The Botanist features unpretentious pub food and monthly changing specials like pork belly with pearly barley and chorizo and green pea and mint risotto. The Botanist is part of the Mitchells and Butlers brand which has around 1,600 restaurants and pubs all over the UK.
