This is an extremely fine Modern European restaurant dressed up as a gastropub with a reasonable private Dining Room upstairs. Several chefs have come and gone since the place first started when Tom Martinovic brought the quirky touches of Heston Blumenthal - who he trained under - to the kitchen. Now its the turn of chef Diego Sales whose Italian influence is evident in the rosemary flavouring of the foie gras and quail egg or the slow-cooked mutton neck served with caponata. The wine is, if anything, even more impressive than the food. Not surprising as Mark van der Goot, who jointly owns the place, used to be sommelier at The Greenhouse in Kew. Go with their recommendations, matching a glass to each course, and you won't be disappointed. If you want a spectacular gourmet meal, at a reasonable price, then this is well worth travelling for. After The Butcher & Grill, it's the best place in Battersea for Sunday Lunch.
