Before it was a hip private members' club designed specifically for the creative industries - complete with bar and dining rooms, cinema, TV and recording studios - The Hospital was exactly that, a hospital. Now you're more likely to find media types schmoozing over a cocktail than sick and injured patients languishing in the wards first built in the 18th century. Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, paired up with Dave Stewart, musician and producer (and one half of the Eurythmics) to create this designer haven where creative types can feel at home. At £550 a year (and a joining fee of £300) membership is on the pricey side - but it's cheaper (and less stuffy) than Soho's Groucho and there is a reduced rate of £300 p.a. (no joining fee) for those under 30. Facilities include a main lounge and bar, a restaurant, a screening room, martini and bellini bars, a games room and a library. Rooms are also available for hire and, if you know the right people, you can drop in for an art exhibition or a screening without paying the annual membership fee. Girls beware: Jude Law is amongst celebrity members.
