In a former banking hall, previously home to The Ballroom, The Mercer is in the perfect location to cater for the lunching city crowd and their big bank accounts. The slick black and white interior and brass trimmings on the bar appeal to this kind of big spender. So too do the indulgent dishes. Whole roast partridge is ideally suited to the fat cats who make up the restaurant's footfall. Extravagantly prepared Scottish beef is dry aged on the bone for a minimum of 28 days and served on the bone with roast tomato, mushroom and bearnaise sauce. This is classic British cuisine at its sumptuous best. Finish with a pudding plate piled with warm Eccles cakes served with clotted cream or sherry trifle with rhubarb and roasted almonds before returning to your city office to make some more millions. The Mercer images
