The winner of the Time Out Award for Best Gastropub 2007 is indeed a truly splendid restaurant, with a short menu of hip modern cuisine made from traditional English ingredients like smoked eel, belly pork, and oxtail. It's all very much in the Gordon Ramsay style, which means these sturdy traditional flavours are prettified and elaborated, stacked with unconventional sides, and generally turned into gourmet cuisine. If this all seems a bit excessive for a basic Victorian boozer, don't worry, because where The Rosendale is a huge improvement over its owners’ previous venture, The Greyhound at Battersea, is that it is also a proper pub. A separate all-day menu in the bar area serves steaks, burgers and fishcakes, mostly for under a tenner, but prepared by the same excellent chefs who work on the fiddlier items. Both rooms are also served by what is genuinely - in both scope and value - one of the finest wine lists in the Capital.
