The Ten Bells Pub in Spitalfields may be a one-room drinking den for hip young things but it also has a long history - it's been standing on the corner of Commercial Street and Fournier Street since at least 1752. It also has a place in Jack the Ripper history - victims of the Ripper patronized the pub during the Autumn of Terror in 1888 - and for eight years, from 1976, it was known as 'The Jack the Ripper', reverting to its original name, The Ten Bells, in 1988. Today it's a trendy, noisy bar which gets pretty crowded, there are no seats and the toilets are dodgy but if you ignore all of that it is a charming if rough-around-the-edges boozer with a few old school touches including a large panel showing an 18th century London street scene and blue and white tiles dating back to 1900.
