Though you might expect a restaurant where the cooking is done by students (from the next door Westminster Kingsway College) to be a bit Russian roulette, we've never had a bad experience at The Vincent Rooms, and the prices are astoundingly low. Only the advanced students - from the course that produced Ainsley Harriot and Jamie Oliver - are allowed near the kitchen, and the standard varies from decent to stratospheric, especially in the haute cuisine Escoffier Room. The Brasserie Room is a plain canteen-style dining room, but there's nothing plain about the food, which comes from a long menu of imaginative Modern European dishes, reminiscent of one of London's posher gastropubs. The Escoffier Room is aiming more at the Michelin starred end of the spectrum, and hits the heights impressively often. The best value lunch in London.
