Tiffinbites

Every lunchtime in Mumbai, 200,000 tiffin boxes are delivered to the city's office workers. It's a model that has inspired Tiffinbites which delivers up to 50,000 of food packaged in the traditional round aluminium containers a week. Just as in India, each of these tins contain individual portions of meat and vegetable curry dishes, bread and rice, chutney and daal. With Tiffinbites Jamal Hirani, a former lingerie buyer for Marks & Spencer, has turned Indian food from an evening meal into a viable lunchtime option with his traditional yet healthy home cooked dishes, wraps and naan breads - many of which are made to his mother's recipes. His executive chef, Vishal, trained with the respected Taj group in Kerala, south India. Meals are made using little oil and no ghee to keep the fat content to a minimum, with lean meat and freshly ground spices. The Tiffinbites group is owned by the V8 Gourmet Group along with the takeaway outfit Bombay Bicycle Club and, at the other end of the spectrum, the Vama fine dining restaurant on the King's Road. At Tiffinbites restaurants you can choose from two menus: a quick bite at lunch (served 11am to 5pm); or a more lavish spread with tandoori dishes and biryanis in the evenings, served with a full drinks menu from 5pm onwards.
