Union Street CafeClassical North Italian cooking is the fare at the Union Street Cafe, a Borough restaurant owned by Gordon Ramsay (and, for a short time at least, David Beckham). Ramsay's first opening in London since Bread Street Kitchen in 2011, Union Street Cafe is his tenth restaurant in Britain and it's "far from atrocious" writes Matthew Norman in the Telegraph. Interior designer Russell Sage has gone for the industrial chic/New York loft look, with exposed pipes and bare, table cloth-free wooden tables. But don't be fooled by the casual apperance, says David Sexton in the Evening Standard, the Union Street Cafe is "an ambitious ristorante in street disguise". On the menu, which changes daily, are some surprisingly affordable dishes including lasagne tradizionale. The focus on seasonal ingredients from the Mediterranean has an emphasis on Italian artisan producers, complimented with what is available from the neighbouring Borough and Maltby Street markets.
