Don't be put off by your initial impressions of this huge and airy restaurant - it looks like the food court at Bluewater, but there's a lot going on here. This is a German chain that have added a bit of Vorsprung durch Technik to Italian cooking. The chefs stationed around the room have various hi-tech devices that help them produce antipasti, salads and pastas to order in just a couple of minutes, while pizza takes about five. There are oils, chilli and a basil plant on every table, so you can adjust the flavour to suit yourself. It's all self-service, and extremely rapid and informal, and while the pasta is a touch German - starchy and a little underflavoured - pizza and antipasti are excellent. Prices are absolutely rock bottom for food of this quality, and for the excellent wines and lagers. It's an unusual concept, and one that won't suit everybody, but those who want tgood, quick, informal dining in an attractive room will find much to enjoy here.
