The fantastic lighting in this contemporary art gallery designed by Foster and Partners is no accident. The ceiling has been covered in stretched white canvas especially so that the art works are shown off to their best advantage, lit by a uniform, bright light. When dealer Michael Hue-Williams first opened the gallery in 2004 it was at a time when London was the height of artistic cool. The decision to open here in Battersea overlooking the Thames, rather than Cork Street, allowed him to create this vast, architectural and impressive space that can compete with the likes of the Serpentine and the Hayward. Noteworthy shows at this significant gallery have included futuristic furniture by Brazilian duo, Humberto and Fernando Campana - who have also designed the V & A's garden - and a pavilion by next generation architect David Adjaye.
