Annely Juda was a formidable figure in the art world. Her significant contribution to the arts was recognised when she was made a CBE in 1998, the first time such an honour has been given to a contemporary art dealer. The diminutive German collector's art dealings began in the early 1960s but her eponymous gallery only opened at this Dering Street location in 1990. Since her death in 2006 it is now run by her son David who worked alongside her. David continues to exhibit artists that Annely made her trademark, concentrating on works of pure abstraction. She showcased works by the Russian avant garde, Bauhaus and de Stijl schools, all of which were relatively unknown in Britain at the time. Today, artists represented include David Hockney, Anthony Caro and Leon Kossoff as well as contempoary Japanese artists Yuko Shiraishi, Katsura Funakoshi, and Toko Shinoda.
