When this three floor flagship store opened on 20th March 2008 Londoners celebrated - no longer would we have to go to the States to stock up on our beloved Banana Republic fashions. Now we simply skip to Regent Street to get the clothes we used to covet from across the Atlantic. Banana Republic, owned by the same company as Gap, is best described as Gap's older, wiser and more smartly dressed big sister. And this tastefully designed Regent Street store is a beauty. Stylewise, the clothes are somewhere between Reiss and Massimo Dutti, using good quality fabrics to make wearable clothes in limited numbers - so less chance of facing the social embarrassment of having to cross the street to avoid someone wearing the same thing as you. The pricing makes interesting reading, though. On current exchange rates, a trip to the States may still be the most cost effective way of stocking up on all your Banana Republic gear.
