Fairfax is an established art dealership that has built a reputation on shows by young, up-and-coming artists. They have just opened a flagship gallery on 'the beach', a stretch of wonderful small properties off the Fulham Road. Now the Ladies Who Lunch will have a chance to admire and buy up the works of England's hottest artistic talents without leaving Chelsea.
If form is any guide, the Fairfax will be be a champion of younger artists with an emphasis on Royal Academy graduates and rural talent dug up by Andrew Fairfax, the manager. The old gallery is in Burnham Market, a corner of Norfolk known as 'Chelsea on Sea' to the locals because of the huge number of Londoners living in second homes there. Fairfax therefore has a track record of selling to the well-to-do and this gallery will be a busy, independent concern, which young artists will be keen to pitch to.
Past shows in Burnham have included such artists as Shaun Ferguson, Gemma Harwood, James Naughton, Stephanie Rogers and Alice Scrutton, showing the gallery has a sure eye for talent.
