Guts For Garters in Camden specialises in antique and contemporary art, interiors and contemporary fashion and costume. But the unusual bit about it is that they don't have new stock with each season. Instead, they organise three separate 'Buying Exhibitions' which are open for six weeks at a time. The year culminates in a grand finale with an extended buying exhibition of three months that runs over fashion week and the Frieze art fair, finishing at Christmas time. The store which was set up by Rachel Chudley and Cassie Beadle, both graduates from the Courtauld Institute, is run and curated more like a gallery than a traditional shop. Guts for Garters states that its (ambitious) aim is to "combat the throwaway culture of the high street", breaking down the walls of the exclusive art gallery to bring us the "collectibles of the future".
