Fans of the Hummingbird Bakery really fall in love with the place, waxing lyrical about the sweet cupcakes which are cooked to American tastes with thick 'frosting' (creamy icing if you're British) on top. If you get your cake to go it sits pretty in a cute box - top marks for presentation. This Notting Hill branch on Portobello Road was the original shop, opened in January 2004, is the smallest of their shops and gets packed on a Saturday when hoards of people visit Portobello Road Market so be prepared to queue. The cupcakes might be too sweet for some but with so many rating these 'the best cupcakes in London' it's hard to resist finding out what all the fuss is about. The goods are freshly baked each day and even if you're not swept away by their beautiful array of cupcakes you can choose from their range of cakes, American pies - Mississippi mud pie, pumpkin and pecan - brownies, cookies, washed down with a glass of milk. Hmmmm.
