Although he was born in Hong Kong John Rocha is very much an Irish designer and came to public attention using Irish linen in his final year collection. His home is Ireland where he designed the Morrison hotel in the country's capital and he has created several crystal ranges for Irish company Waterford Crystal. That hasn't stopped him from being awarded the title of British Designer of the Year in 1994 and a CBE in 2002. It's really about time he launched this his first ever London shop. Housed in a listed building in the heart of Mayfair, the shop is on the site of what was recently a pub which has been restored to a suitably luxurious standard. Improvements include a library and menswear collections on the lower ground floor, cute childrenswear and a stunning crystal room on the ground floor while up on the first floor Rocha's womenswear is displayed topped by a conservatory. If you can't afford Rocha's catwalk creations, you can always head to Debenhams where he does a diffusion line for half the price.John Rocha images
