This is the first stand-alone Liberty shop to open in London since its famous timber-framed Regent Street department store opened in 1875. With the creative direction of Tamara Salman, styling the “Liberty brand” since 2005, this 1800sq ft store spread over two floors is the first of several stand-alone stores planned globally. The Sloane Street store is modelled on the original Regent Street building using the Art Nouveau Ianthe print - a Liberty design from 1900 - for the brass inlay details. Decorative stucco ceilings and walls are added to with elaborate gold arches and dark oak detailing. Accessories take centre stage with leather goods, scarves, swimwear and jewellery on the ground floor and the men's collections one level up. Since it opened in 1875, Liberty has made a reputation for itself with Eastern influences reflecting its founder's fascination with Japan following the International Exhibition of 1862. In the 60s Liberty found fame and popularity with designers like Mary Quant and Jean Muir producing the shop's own line in fabrics. This store is the latest twist in its long history.
Best for:
Accessories, leather goods and Liberty prints.
