From St Martins to the fashion department of 'The Evening Standard' via British 'Vogue' Luella Bartley came to be a designer with her own label through an unusual route. Her fashion week shows are always a cause for excitement and though she mainly shows in Paris she'll always be an English girl. Her first collection, for example, was littered with pony club references - the strap line of which was 'Daddy I Want a Pony' - and her quirky sense of humour can only be British. The opening of this, her first stand-alone shop in London, is a kind of homecoming for the designer. The clothes sold here - next door to the Handel House Museum where the composer lived - will include one-of-a-kind items that, no doubt, will be snapped up by some model or celebrity. But there are sure to be plenty of 'Luella for Mulberry' bags to go around and every girl who can consider spending a month's rent on an 'It' bag should invest in one.Luella images
