With views over St Paul's Cathedral, One New Change combines modern architecturally designed office space with a shopping centre in the heart of the financial district. Opened in October 2010, this three acre City development - the size of 12 football pitches - has been designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, who won a competition run by property developers Land Securities for the project. The Pritzker Prize-winning architect has worked on more than 200 projects including the Torre Agbar in Barcelona - their equivalent of our Gherkin. For One New Change - his first UK building - Nouvel has come up with two twisted blocks with a public path separating them. Cleverly, he has made maximum use of the site's close proximity to St Paul's, with public viewing platforms at the top of the building as well as plenty of matt glass within. Being close to the London Stock Exchange and the Bank of England the development is convenient for finance and banking businesses - and the centre's location means City workers can pop out to shop at lunchtime or after work, rather than hopping on the central line and making the mission to the Westfield. That said, like the Shepherd's Bush complex, One New Change contains a predictable range of shops and restaurants - including the likes of Topshop, Next, Nando's, H&M, Hobbs, Banana Republic, Reiss, Zizzi's and Calvin Klein. Both Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver are set to open eateries, however.One New Change images
