Polo, once seen as an elitist and dying sport, is experiencing a mini
revival all over the world that dates back, in all likelihood, to the
divot scene in Pretty Woman. Its popularity amongst young royals,
celebrities and socialites may have done little to dispel its image as
an aloof activity for toffs, but the truth is that polo as a brand is
getting more and more popular amongst a broader ranger of people across
the social spectrum (there is even a world tournament, Polo in the Park, taking place in Fulham each year). Polo shirts have always been fashionable across the board and Polistas,
who have branches in Buenos Aires and St Tropez as well as two outlets
in London, have tapped into this market, selling upmarket but affordable
professional-looking polo attire to the masses. The flagship store in
the Burlington Arcade may have closed down, but Polistas now have shops
in the Westfield Shopping Centre and Shepherd Market in Mayfair.
