Walking through Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill on a weekend it's worth having a look at the Salon Contemporary (formerly SaLon Gallery). If you're lucky, you may get to see a man in the window, not just a man, an artist, doing what artists do - painting. It's this sort of stunt that makes Samir Ceric's gallery one of the least stuffy exhibition spaces in Notting Hill. They also have musicians, DJs, poetry readings, film screenings and all kinds of live performances - from dance to comedy. There's also a cafe where you can get good, strong coffee and a menu that changes as frequently as the art exhibitions which are updated every three or four weeks. It's a vibrant hot-bed for new artistic talent and also a popular place to throw a private part. Salon Contemporary now runs a series of one-off events on the First Wednesday of each month where its doors are kept open till 9pm.
