Achingly hip temple to Scandinavian design, Skandium is owned by three Scandinavians living in London. Fed up with being unable to find anywhere that specialised in modern Scandinavian design, Magnus Englund, Chrystina Schmidt and Christopher Seidenfaden decided to bring the new, innovative ideas pouring out of Scandinavia together with old, well established design icons. The result is Skandium which now has two shops - the other is on Marylebone High Street (W1U 4QS) - and they also run the only Marimekko shop in the UK (at St Christopher's Place), a specialist Finnish textile brand. Stocking design classics by names like Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto and Hans Wegner, it's entirely different ball game to Ikea.
