This Muswell Hill branch of the Purkis fishmongers was set up in 1987 and continues a family tradition of trading that goes back for two centuries. There's another of these great fish shops at Crouch End run by Walter and his eldest son John. They have a reputation for selling the freshest fish with daily supplies coming in from Billingsgate Market as well as a twice weekly delivery from Europe supplying them with more exotic fish and shellfish. Smoked fish is a speciality, smoked in the century-old smoke house at the rear of the Crouch
End shop.
