The biggest bookshop in Europe, Waterstone's - Piccadilly boasts a huge floorspace formerly occupied by Simpson's - the iconic menswear department store. This five-floor flagship store is in an attractive 1930s building making book shopping a real pleasure. The striking building was the first British shop to feature an uninterrupted curved-glass frontage. Comfortable sofas, an excellent cafe, and a pretty good French restaurant all conspire to make the shopping experience as comfortable as possible. The book selection is, of course, excellent - it's particularly good for new publications. This really is a fantastic, architecturally stunning place to capture a few hours of solace away from the clamour of central London. The Studio Lounge bar offers one of the best cafe experiences in the city - enjoy a glass of wine, settle down with a good book and drink in the unrivalled views over the capital.
