Tucked away near the Barbican multi-arts centre and the world-renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Chimes Music is in illustrious company. Since opening in 1983 it has successfully fulfilled the needs of music-loving Londoners.
It’s one of the capital’s few remaining independent music shops and it’s plain to see why it’s endured. Unlike the majority of music stores - where sales staff often can’t tell a crotchet from a quaver - the team are all qualified musicians with in-depth knowledge. Whether you’re after a guitar for strumming round the camp fire or the sheet music to Strauss’s ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’, Chimes will be able to lend a hand.
The shop is well-stocked with instruments, sheet music and accessories, and - if you can’t make it to the shop – they offer a mail order service and a special delivery to schools and colleges in the London area.
