Established in 1776, Christie’s holds sales ranging from Old Masters to the contemporary arts. In 1990 it broke all records with the sale Van Gogh’s Portrait of Doctor Gachet for $82,500,000. More recently it raised $13,378,558 for the Rothschild Prayerbook, an extremely rare bible with illuminated manuscripts.
