As music, game and DVD giants go, Zavvi in Piccadilly (formerly Virgin Megastore and, before that, Tower Records) is perhaps the most accommodating and rewarding choice. The gigantic store has got it all, and more, and its layout in terms of various departments stops one from feeling overwhelmed. When Virgin originally bought out Tower Records, the indie spirit of this store - which saw several charting acts formed among the staff and even inspired tosh movie 'Empire Records' - disappeared. It was replaced by a vast 'Top 40' section, some eye-watering prices, but a good solid selection.
