An imposing grade II listed mid Victorian mansion with extensive grounds landscaped by Robert Marnock, Avenue House is now available to hire for weddings, conferences and business functions. However the land that Avenue House occupies has, over the years, seen a rich and varied history. Originally owned by the Bishop of London, in the mid 1200s the land was granted to the Knights Templars and was known as Temple Croft Fields. From 1312, it belonged to the equally powerful Christian group, Knights Hospitallers, until their lands were seized in 1540 by Henry VIII.
