Sold to property developers in 2012 Television Centre in White City, home to the BBC for fifty years, is being redeveloped into a cinema, a boutique hotel and members' club from the Soho House group, shops and 950 new homes. But the BBC remains, in part, at least. The broadcaster retains three studios on the 14-acre site, including the famous Studio 1, and the grade II listed doughnut-shaped centre of the complex has been safeguarded. It will be turned into executive apartments while the forecourt in front of the building will be remodelled into a public retail and leisure space. Behind this, the inner ring will be refurbished to provide space for the 47-room hotel and apartments. Building work is well underway and in summer 2016 Pergola on the Roof, a food court set 170-feet-high under a canopy of flowers, brings four restaurants including Rabbit, Salt Yard and Patty & Bun to the lofty heights of this iconic building in west London.
The BBC's Studio 1 is set to reopen in early 2017. 432 homes, available in the first phase, are expected in 2018, with prices ranging from £700,000 for a one bedroom.
