This beautiful garden just off Oxford Street and close to Selfridges occupies an unlikely position - above an electricity sub-station. Brown Hart Gardens were re-opened in 2007 for the public to enjoy after 20 years of closure with further renovations planned. Classical stone pillars and listed domes serve as a reminder of the 'Italian Garden' in the centre designed by C. Stanley Peach in 1903 which was replaced by the electricity station. But the terrace garden remains a pleasant urban oasis between Binney Street and Gilbert Street. The current version replaced an earlier communal garden created to fit in with surrounding Peabody housing for the working classes.
