The Jerwood name is synonymous with investing in the arts. Thanks to the tireless work of charitable organisation the Jerwood Foundation, large funds have been raised and invested in 'the work of art'. Opened in 1998, the Jerwood Space is a major initiative of the Foundation, providing excellent facilities including rehearsal spaces for theatre and dance. As its run for the arts instead of profit, young dance and theatre companies can develop their work at a reduced cost, working alongside established professional companies. The beautiful contemporary art gallery, formerly a Victorian school now refurbished by Paxton Locher Architects, also offers a fantastic space for exhibitions including Jerwood-backed prizes for sculpture, drawing, photography and jewellery. There's also a caf and a striking glazed courtyard by Satellite Architects all of which are open to the public and available to hire for events.
