The Museum of Croydon includes The Riesco Gallery, a stunning collection of Chinese ceramics dating from 2500 BC to the 19th century on display at Croydon Clocktower as well as the Croydon Art Collection containing over 2,000 paintings, prints and drawings. Depictions of local scenes and landmarks are stored alongside prints by Henry Moore and Bridget Riley and paintings by Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. Some of the collection is online at www.museumofcroydon.com and viewings can be arranged by appointment. They also run temporary exhibitions, often relating to the history of the area, and special events and activities to encourage learning and interaction with the museum. With around 500 interviews with people who have lived, loved and worked in Croydon, the local history is recorded in the aural tradition, with major events and personal experiences as told by local people. You can hear extracts of interviews online or arrange an appointment to listen to full interviews.
