Right in the middle of the West End, Piccadilly Circus isn't a circus at all, but an enormous road junction where Piccadilly itself Regent's Street, Shaftsbury Avenue and Haymarket all intersect. Formerly famed for its huge neon advertising hoardings, the twinkling lights are now confined to the building in the northwest corner. On the south side of the circus you'll find the Eros statue atop the Shaftesbury memorial fountain - this Angel is a London icon. Nearby stand some of London's best theatres. Behind the Eros statue you'll find the entrance to the Criterion Theatre, a 600-seater built entirely underground. Just up Shaftesbury Avenue are the Piccadilly, Lyric, Apollo, Palace and Queen's Theatres amongst others. On the west side at No. 1 Piccadilly is a giant music megastore, whilst sports enthusiasts can pick up some bargains at Lillywhite's. Leicester Square and St James' Park are just a short walk.
The Underground station gives access to the Piccadilly and Bakerloo tube lines.
