Recognising the difficulty of getting studio space in London on the income of a struggling artist, Bridget Riley, Peter Sedgley and Peter Townsend set up Space in 1968 to help. This exhibition space in Hackney is used to show works by the 600 or so artists who've benefited from the discounted rents available through them at Space Studios. Well known artists who've shown at the gallery have included Turner prize winner Mark Wallinger as well as award winning artists Saskia Olde Walbers, John Frankland, and Yinka Shonibare. Works in a variety of media are shown; from painting, drawing and sculpture to film and video. Space is located at The Triangle adjacent to London Fields Park, five minutes walk from Broadway Market and next door to the London Fields pub on Mare Street.
