Joining a number of avant garde galleries in this part of Hackney - the inaccessible bit between the Olympic site and Hackney Central - The Residence moved from Victoria Park Road further East in 2007 to the Verger's cottage. Offering space to up and coming and newly established artists, this is a venue where you can see some really ground-breaking stuff. Their inaugural exhibition saw the old gallery done out like a derelict house (replete with peeling walls) with exhibits taking shape using diverse and mixed media. They operate a quick turnover policy on their exhibitions so a repeat visit won’t turn into a tedious episode of déjà vu.
