| The Victoria Miro originally opened in Cork Street in London, W1, in 1985. The gallery moved to its present location in 16 Wharf Road, Islington, in November 2000 where it is now housed in an 8,000 square foot converted Victorian furniture wharehouse. This large, open space lends itself perfectly to exhibitions of contemporary art where Victoria Miro operates as a commercial gallery with artists including Peter Doig, Conrad Shawcross and Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili (in 1998) and Grayson Perry (2003). Ofili, best known for his varnished balls of elephant dung, was also selected to represent Britain at the 50th Venice Biennale in June 2003 where he presented his ambitious exhibition 'Within Reach'. |
