Wallspace officially launched in December 2006 at All Hallows on the Wall to give contemporary art works a spiritual context in which to be seen. The gallery space is largely due to the work of curator Meryl Doney, the wife of Associate Director Reverend Malcolm Doney, and who in 2004 curated 'Presence: Images of Christ for the Third Millennium', a series of linked exhibitions of contemporary art housed in six cathedrals across the UK. Past exhibitions have included 'New Religion' a showing of works by YBA Damien Hirst - for which Hirst created three new large paintings made specifically to hang behind the altar at All Hallows - and 'Pietà, Ascension, Prelude in Air', three films Sam Taylor-Wood drawing on Christian iconography.
