AFC Wimbledon have played their home games at the Kingsmeadow Stadium since the club was founded in 2002, after the original Wimbledon club (now known as Milton Keynes Dons) was given permission to relocate from South London to the town of Milton Keynes. Rising from the ashes, AFC Wimbledon enjoyed a remarkable start to their life as a football club and, in 2011, reached League Two - a superb achievement for a club starting effectively from scratch. AFC Wimbledon share the Kingsmeadow Stadium with semi-professional football club Kingstonian FC, who have been at the south-west London ground since 1989. Often referred to as the K Stadium, the actual official name of Kingsmeadow is a bit of a mouthful: The Cherry Red Records Stadium, named thus for sponsorship purposes. Although the freehold of the 5,200-capacity stadium is held by Kingston Council, AFC Wimbledon are the current leaseholders after buying out Kingstonian in 2003.
