Boasting 16 outdoor courts (covering all Grand Slam surfaces), six indoor courts, a gymnasium, player accommodation, an outdoor sprint track, hydrotherapy and plunge pools, and sports science and medical facilities, the United Kingdom's National Tennis Centre at Roehampton in south-west London is the Lawn Tennis Association's high performance training facility. Officially opened by Queen Elizabeth in March 2007, the National Tennis Centre also houses the administration of the LTA, which was previously based at the Queen's Club in West Kensington. The Centre was built in response to the UK's failure to produce sufficient world class tennis players after a damning review in 1999, when the nation's only top 50 players were Tim Henman (who didn't come through the LTA system) and Greg Rusedski (who learned to play tennis in Canada). Of course, now we have Andy Murray and Laura Robson, there's nothing to worry about... is there?
