SPACe, the Hackney Sports and Performing Art Centre, is an award-winning leisure centre in Hackney which is part of Hackney Community College. Opened in 2001, SPACe has a large main hall that can be used for a range of indoor sports - including basketball (the venue was the home of the professional basketball team London United in 2006/07 before the team fell into financial crisis). SPACe is also home to the Hackney Community College's basketball and cricket academies, and hosts many games in the London Metropolitan Basketball League, the largest regional basketball league in the UK. The main hall has tiered seating for around 600 people, while the centre also boasts a gym and three dance studios.
