Jutting out into the Thames like the British seaside piers of old, Royal Wharf Pier is both a functional and leisure facility. The floating gangway and pontoon is a stop off point for the MBNA Thames Clippers while the floating viewing platform provides a peaceful space for people to linger, relax and admire the unique views up and down the Thames. You can see the Millennium Park, Thames Barrier and Canary Wharf from here. Its strikingly modern design is by London-based architects Nex who have used integrated seating, a sheltered waiting area and durable marine grade timber to create a metal shelter, providing warmth and protection from the elements. The pier links the Royal Wharf development - a neighbourhood of 3,385 riverside homes, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes, part of the £3.5bn Royal Docks regeneration - with The O2, Canary Wharf and as far west as Putney via Battersea.
