There's a choice of three types of boat when you book in for a Thames tour with Flying Fish: jet boat, RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) or hovercraft. The beauty of a hovercraft is that it skims over water and land so you'll find yourself flying sideways onto the 'beaches' at the side of the river - the Thames's banks are sometimes silt, sometimes sand - then hovering back over the water. The 15 minute ride takes you from St Katherine's Pier on a circular trip with a maximum of 10 passengers and you can combine this with a longer boat tour. The jet boat and RIB tours last up to an hour an a half and take in top sights like HMS Belfast, Tower Of London and Tower Bridge, onto Greenwich Maritime Museum, The O2 Arena and the Thames Barrier. Guides are on hand to point out interesting facts on these river tours which travel at speeds of up to 40 knots. By using St Katherine's Pier as their starting point, Flying Fish largely avoid the speed limit zone which extends to Wapping and to Tower Bridge ensuring a high octane trip along the river.
