London Bridge Railway Station
Nearby London Bridge Railway Station

- Visitor Information
The Bridge that gives this station its name was London's original - and the only bridge over the River Thames in central London until 1750 when Westminster Bridge created a crossing. London Bridge Station doesn't date back quite as far as 40AD but it's still pretty darn old. Opened in 1836, it's not only the oldest station in London, but also one of the oldest railway stations in the world. It's still handy for travelling to Kent, Sussex and South/Southeast London with trains every 15 minutes between Brighton, Gatwick, Luton and Bedford. The famous London Bridge is Falling Down nursery rhyme refers to the Bridge (back in the days of the Romans, its wood and clay structure wasn't the most upstanding). While the station hasn't exactly fallen down, it's gone through several rebuilds: the current station is the result of a large-scale refit in the late 1970s.
