Opposite Wandsworth Town station and on the corner of the lively Old York Road, The Alma has grown and grown over the years. Initially a simple Young's pub (the brewery is located near by), The Alma is now something of an enterprise: a spacious pub on the ground floor is flanked by an excellent restaurant, while an annex holds 23 boutique-style hotel rooms and there's a private function room upstairs. The food cooked up by head chef Martin O'Brien is high-end gastropub fare, reasonably priced and served with a smile. In fact, the whole team at this converted local pub are extremely attentive and competent. Being a Young's establishment, it's no surprise that there's a great selection of beers and ales on tap in the green-tiled, wood-panelled front bar. A retractable big screen is also on hand to show live sports games. The slick hotel rooms are furnished with snazzy wallpaper, bespoke furniture and textured fabrics, and with bed and breakfast in a boutique twin starting at £149 a night, they are pretty reasonably priced.
