La Brasserie is a long-standing favourite with the Sloane crowd, handily situated opposite the most expensive shopping street in the world. This is a friendly, family-run restaurant, with a hectic, buzzing atmosphere, variable service, unrivalled opportunities for people-watching and some great food.
Many have complained that the service here is rude... in fact the waiters are simply stressed out from dealing with arrogant ladies all day and will repay the slightest politeness with a smile of real gratitude. They work very hard, and if they do get anything wrong, a quiet word to the manager will ensure a reduction in the bill.
More importantly... the food. The menu here is classic and unchanging, but of the very highest standards. Delicious hearty dishes like cassoulet and steak sit alongside lighter French treats such as onion soup and oysters... Everything is prepared with aplomb and the excellent food is complemented by a superb wine list. The steak tartare is the best in London.
La Brasserie has survived since the 1950s, and it's easy to see why. Expensive, packed, and with a menu that never changes, this place does what it has been doing for years, in the best style. Probably the best brasserie in town.
