Caponata, a family-run Sicilian Ristorante, Osteria and Bar, is one half of Camden's interesting live music and arts venue, The Forge, which showcases jazz and classical acts in its custom-built, intimate space. The two ventures share the use of a splendid glassed-over faux courtyard, the focal point of which is an alluring living green wall of ferns and creepers. The ground floor osteria (the more relaxed café bar), which has seating in this open space, offers a selection of lighter bites and a set menu at £15 for three courses. Upstairs, the more intimate restaurant serves freshly prepared Sicilian food with a wide range of innovative and not overly clichéd antipasti, pasta and carne dishes (mains from £7, wines from £8.25 per 50ml carafe). The real pulling point of both eating establishments is the brilliant concept of your meal being accompanied by live jazz or classical music: retractable partitions can open the performance area up to the shared courtyard, allowing sounds to spread throughout both of Caponata's rooms. Excellent food, fine music, and innovative architecture make for a uniquely forged set-up. Could you ask for more?
