Planet Hollywood, the world famous movie-star burger chain, has undergone a complete revamp and reopened its doors in a new warehouse-style venue on Haymarket. Traditionally a bit of a tourist trap for families with young children, Planet Hollywood has been completely rebranded: the new £5m restaurant and bar is brought to you by the man behind Sketch and the newly replenished Waldorf Hotel. The décor - exposed brickwork, natural timber and hanging lanterns - is more minimalist and grown-up than the previous, rather garish Coventry Street venue. But select areas still house the movie memorabilia associated with the chain while big screens continue to show up-to-date film previews and snippets from the latest blockbusters. An Austin Powers-inspired 'Best of British' room celebrates classic films set in Blighty and has a huge Union Jack carpet to celebrate the London location. Food remains simple but honest: American nosh at its best, with an array of burgers (served with fries and a huge selection of different toppings at around £10 each), steaks and club sandwiches. A new 'Wok Station' caters for those who love Asian food, while a range of pizzas is also on the menu. The Planet Hollywood bar sees the chain aiming at a slightly older clientele and serves Salvatore Calabrese-designed cocktails, beers, wines and champagne (open Mon-Sat until 1am, Sun until 10.30pm). A second mezzanine bar looks over the open-plan venue and there is a private room available for hire.
