Coffee-cum-wine-bar Notes opened its first shop on St Martin's Lane in 2010 and this Moorgate cafe right underneath City Point, a skyscraper on Ropemaker Street in the City, followed three years later. The difference with Notes is that they roast their own coffee sourcing the highest quality just-roasted beans. The lighter roasts and a rotating menu of filter coffees are USPs at Notes where you can also get loose leaf teas from Lalani & Co and quality wines. Menus are seasonal and home-made with pastries, granola, toast with home-made jam for breakfast, salads, sandwiches soups and tarts for lunch and cheese and meat boards the ideal accompaniment to a glass of wine in the evening. They charge a flat corkage fee of £8 on all wines when you drink them in the light-filled, airy cafe which has floor to ceiling windows, so they're pretty much a bargain too.
