Explore themes of faith, fame, immigration and mortality in the first major Andy Warhol exhibition at Tate Modern for close to 20 years. Displaying over 100 works, the biopic offers a rare personal insight into how a shy, gay man from a religious, migrant, low income household became the epitome of the pop art movement and an American icon. Examine a roomful of his most famous 1960's Pop Art - Campbell's soup cans, Coke bottles and Marilyn Monroe on repeat - and discover the silver lined Factory, filled with his Screen Tests and glittering A-listers like Edie Sedgwick. Warhol's playful, floating Silver Clouds is an interactive installation to get lost in - a dreamy space with reflective, half-filled silver helium balloons. It leads to a 1960's disco, a recreation of the psychedelic Exploding Plastic Inevitable, with film projections on all four walls, recreating the experience of a Velvet Underground rock show. Extract yourself to see an extraordinary photograph by Richard Avedon revealing the post-op scars of Warhol's life-saving operation following his shooting in 1968. That event signalled a change in Warhol's working practices; the studio became less of a social space and more business oriented. The last room in the exhibition is darkly lit and dedicated to just one work: the monumental memento mori, Sixty Last Suppers. Created a year before his death in 1987, his Last Suppers hint that the artist knew that his untimely passing at the age of 58 was imminent.
